Selective teardrop rack is the starting point for mixed SKUs because every pallet stays directly accessible. Selective teardrop is the default for mixed SKUs; pushback stores two to six deep LIFO by SKU; pallet flow supports FIFO or dated stock; drive-in suits bulk quantities of few SKUs; cantilever supports long loads; carton flow serves case picking. We compare access, rotation and occupied positions before recommending a system.

How much does pallet rack cost?

What size pallet rack do I need?

A common starting point is 42-inch-deep uprights for standard 48-inch-deep pallets and 96-inch beams for two 40-inch-wide pallets; 108-inch and 144-inch beams are also common, with 144-inch beams accommodating three pallets. Measure your real pallets, including overhang. Rack height follows clear height and forklift lift height, and final dimensions must provide working clearance.

Can I add new bays to my existing pallet rack?

Usually, if the connections and rated configuration match. "Teardrop" is not universal across manufacturers: send photos of the upright face, beam connector and any label so we can match compatible new components.

Choosing Between Rack Types

Four things decide the answer: how many SKUs you carry, how many pallets you hold of each one, how fast product turns, and how much height the building gives you.

Many SKUs with a pallet or two each point to selective pallet rack. Several pallets of the same item favor pushback. Date-driven rotation calls for pallet flow. Large volumes of a few items in a tight footprint suit drive-in. Long material needs cantilever, and case picking needs carton flow.
